Almaty has more "fake" meat products

Specialists of the "National Center for Expertise" said that the counterfeit quantity is growing on the shelves of Almaty, Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports.

According to experts, unscrupulous manufacturers of meat products are replacing beef and pork with soy and chicken for more profit.

In 2018, of the two thousand samples tested by specialists, about 40 percent did not correspond to the declared marking. For the first quarter of 2019, problems were identified in 99 of 142 samples. According to experts, most often producers replace beef with chicken.

"There are facts of falsification - replacing more valuable meat with less valuable. In one of the cases, it was indicated on the canned food that there is beef in the product, but we found soy DNA. Beef is often mixed with less valuable meat - chicken. Animal meat is replaced with vegetable - soy “We found pork in halal products,” said Gulvira Magulova, head of the bacteriological laboratory of the National Center for Expertise of the Ministry of Health.

The number of products with inappropriate labels is growing. “We conduct monitoring and procurement on a monthly basis. Products are selected from retail chains. Most often, semi-finished products are fake - dumplings, cutlets and sausages. This is done to make it cheaper,” the expert added.
